Essential Functions

The PRN Birth Assistant provides care for the client and family during labor, birth and postpartum period at Labor of Love Birth Center. The PRN Birth Assistant may be asked to perform clinic responsibilities including:

  • Lab draws and testing

  • Triage and scheduling

  • Processing lab results

  • Cleaning and stocking

The Birth Assistant may also be asked to participate in the provision of extended postpartum care, client education programs, community outreach, and center operations in collaboration with the Administrative and/or Director of Midwifery.

Schedule Requirements

  • Call shifts are 24 hours, 8am-8am.  

  • The minimum requirement for call, the PRN BA must be available for: 

    • Three (3) 24-hour call shifts per month and one weekend in three (weekends are defined as Friday, Saturday and Sunday). 

    • Three (3) holiday shifts per year. 

  • Minimum mandatory attendance at 6 monthly staff meetings/drills throughout the year, staff may not be absent for 2 consecutive meetings.  

  • Coverage will fluctuate based on staffing needs and volume of births. 

  • The PRN BA may be asked to fill in during clinic hours periodically. If clinic coverage is needed, PRN staff will be notified as early as possible of the need to cover clinic and/or call shifts.

  • As the birth center becomes busier, we will adjust the schedule as needed. 

All birth assistants must maintain current certification in adult cardiopulmonary and neonatal resuscitation.
